Even though embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are adapting at a rapid pace. Without star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another victory in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to seal straight passage to the knockout stages, especially following a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had finished their domestic season were no match even for a mostly rotated Palace lineup. The Londoners were already weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Start
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.

Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
