Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
