Minister Confirms MoD Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible security risks posed by Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been told to refrain from talking about classified information in all cars.

Security Advice for MoD Personnel

He stated that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, however stressed that security is a concern in all modern cars.

Our department has a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in all automobile, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using all Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow China to switch off buses and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

This broader security situation highlights the importance of strong protocols and caution in every aspects of official activities, including vehicle use to discussions practices.
